Welcome Stanley!!! We usually go the week before you and very seldom get the chance to go up OFRR. It depends on the weather but even TRR is closed for a day or two until the big snows. I'm sure the locals will advise you when OFRR will close for the season.

In Estes Park, October highs average 61, lows average 25, and rainfall averages 0.81 inch. Welcome aboard!

Prepare for anything and everything. I was there in early October two years ago and it was sunny and 75 the day I arrived, rained the next day, changed to snow that night and there was 12" on snow in the park by the next morning.

This was Lake Haiyaha the first day

The Loch the next day.

Those pictures say it all. Good ones Glenn! The weather is very unpredictable here, even when you think it's going to be predictable!

I have really enjoyed going in October, but you as mentioned, you will
need to be prepared for anything.
If the weather cooperates, it is a great time to visit.
But, you can always find things to do in spite of the weather.

My family and I have been coming to Estes Park for the last 8 years and we always come the first week of October. It is usually in the mid to upper 60's during the day and in the mid 30's at night. I love it b/c I can wear jeans and a sweatshirt and be comfortable. Thankfully we have avoided a lot of the snow that seems to happen in the middle/late Oct. You will love the colors and the elk rutting during the first week of Oct. Plus, most of the cabins have Oct. 1 as the offseason and the rates are cheaper.
