We'll be spending a week at Moraine starting next Tuesday (our first visit to RMNP--we're really looking forward to it). We'll be coming from the east pulling a 31' fifth-wheel. We want to stock up on groceries before entering the park, but don't want to be driving down small side streets with our trailer. What large grocery stores will we find along our route, either in Estes Park or Loveland? Thanks for your help.

Boy are you in for a great vacation. Hope you enjoy RMNP like everyone else has. I'm sure some locals can give you more info but if you are coming thru Loveland there are plenty of grocery stores along the route with large parking areas. Estes Park has a Safeway but unless you are there early it is always crowded to try and put a vehicle and trailer. It's a nice store but really busy.

There's an Albertson's and Safeway along Hwy 34 as you're going through Loveland.

The Albertsons in Loveland is closed, but we usually stop at the Safeway their to avoid the EP Safeway crowds.

Depending on where east you are coming from it might be easier towing taking 66 - 36 (Longmont -Lyons) to Estes, lots of two lane/pull-offs, ok curves and grades. If so, there is a SuperWalmart at the corner of 66/287 and a King Soopers (Kroger) a couple blocks south (first stoplight) of 66 on 287....it also tends to have the lowest gas prices (particularly with Kroger/King Sooper Card) I've seen around there...I think the outside pumps would be ok but wasn't towing myself so didn't pay that much attention....in any event I highly recommend topping off somewhere before you head to Estes...about a 50 cent/gallon differential when we were there a couple weeks ago.......Greg

Safeway is also expensive, but we still go there every year. Better the devil you know. Do go early as it gets very busy.

Safeway is a nice store, but make sure you get the discount card.. The savings are huge.. or should I say the penalties for not having the card are huge (depending on whether your glass is half full or half empty). As I recall some turkey in the deli was about $800/pound without a card and about $5/pound with (or something like that)...

Have a great trip..

I think the trip in question is in progress or over, but boy, this post sure is true! I have a Safeway discount card in my wallet - and we don't have a Safeway! It is ONLY for our trips to RMNP! rolleyes.gif

Boy thats the truth. I hate the card concept.... in kc here the stores with the cards are usuually the ones with higher average prices and the cards get you teh sale price thats the same as the sale price at other stores - no card needed.

Some states do not allow the use of cards. Could not agree more.

I have a Safeway card and only get to use it in Estes Park but also I usually stop in Ft. Lupton at the Safeway to get gas and if you show your Safeway card you get a discount on the gas too.
