Part 1 of our interview with our Chief Photo Spammer. Erik talks about the basics of photography, seeing the light like a camera, equipment myths, as well as influences such as John Swadley and more! Mike takes us along on a hike to Lost Lake for the Trail Mix, and our Gear Geek, John Swadley, explains how to find the right boot for you!

The podcast was great!!! I learned a lot, eg. that I'd absolutely love to go to Lost Lake but probably couldn't make it (unless I took 3 days to get there!). I know I'm biased, but I thought the mini photographic workshop was excellent! I didn't get to listen to the whole gear segment because by that time Luke was desperate for breakfast, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable podcast. Good job everyone!

Thanks Jo! Although, John may be sad that you didn't listen to all his segment whistling.gif

I'm eager to hear what others think about the podcast as well. I'm sure the rest of the listeners will get their chance to listen throughout the next week.

Any Ryan Shupe fans out there? You'll like this podcast yup.gif

Erik did a great job. He's as hard on his public speaking as he is his photography. Thanks Erik for taking the time to give me the interview shakehands.gif And for everyone else....don't forget, there's a part two to this interview.

Another great podcast! Well timed, I need to pick out some new boots, mine have started to disintegrate! Mike's segments are always great and Erik, I love hearing your passion for what you do.
I think it would be fun hearing Erik discuss gear and John give his perspective on photography - just to give us different view points.

Ouch! This is like a member who leaves just before my sermon starts to visit the church library. jester.gif

By the way, when do you think the itunes store will have your podcast again?

Sorry John laugh.gif But I'm going to listen to your segment later. I just don't always have a whole uninterrupted hour at one time. What I did listen to though, didn't sound like you (are you sure it wasn't an imposter? whistling.gif jester.gif)

I hope it was John. I'd hate to take a boot recommendation from a complete stranger.

Good job with the podcast everyone. Very informative. I think we should have a poll on how far Aaron John and Glen get their first day. caribou.gif

Oh and John, I listened to your whole segment. peace.gif

Finally had time to finish the podcast.

Anyone want to buy a camera cheap??? I think I'll try using a pin-hole camera this next trip---(since the camera doesn't matter) rolleyes.gif

Seriously, Erik's info was great--and just in time before I start my next visit to Rocky. (July 24) Every Thtime I see his work, or hear his tips I am just amazed.

The Lake segment was a trip down memory lane---thanks for helping me recall the good times.

As for the boots---"These boots are made for walking"!!!! guess now I better trade in my Teva's!

Seriously, Aaron---thanks for doing these---I know the work you go through and the clearly shows in the finished product. And for all those who contributed---just goes to show why this is the place to be---there are so many folks here with such knowledge---we can all profit and learn just by hanging out here!

See! I'm not the only one neener.gif

I just finished listening to ALL of John's segment. It was GREAT - although I think smudge may dispute what you said about not wearing flipflops laugh.gif.

I didn't know there was so much to know about boots! I've had the same pair of hiking boots (Lowas) for over 3 years (tell tale sign of how much hiking I really do or don't do). I was just lucky with those as I didn't do anything right I bought them - the half price clearance tag was what made me choose them smile1.gif. But I'll be much better prepared to buy my next pair.

I've resubmitted it. I'll probably send them an email in a week if it's not back up by then.

Great job Mike, Erik, and Gear Geek John. Every time I hear "Get your geek on" I start laughing...lol

Mike - Great job on the hike report!

Erik - I especially liked your advice about just sitting and watching the light and what it does. Before I started photography I never really did see the beautiful colors before and after sunrise/set. Photography really does open your eyes to a lot of things you wouldn't normally notice.

John - Thanks for the info on the boots. I need to get me a pair.

You guys all speak so well and have great 'radio' voices. Erik, I expected you to be much more soft spoken. smile.gif

Just remember.....there's a part two to this interview. There's plenty more knowledge Erik dishes out for part two.

Jen, if you know exactly what you want, i.e. you don't have to go and get fitted, please use the REI link......pretty please? laugh.gif

Well I just finished listening to the show. Mike's report makes me REALLY anxious to get up to Lost Lake next month. Woo Hoo! I learned some helpful stuff from Erik, now if I can just remember it when I'm out with my camera. It is so great to hear him finally say that mid-afternoon photography ROCKS! (I knew he'd some around.) jester.gif Finally, if anyone has a gear topic they'd like me to cover, post it below. I'd just as soon talk about gear that you are interested in or have questions about. I LOVE THIS PLACE!
