It was Erik's day off today but with the rain we couldn't take Luke hiking. At a loss for things to do, we stopped in at the Estes Ark located on Hwy 34 on the right as you come into town from Loveland. At the risk of sounding sexist, if you have boys it's a really fun activity (I'm sure some girls like it too!). They have a big slot car race track set up on the lower level and up to 5 people at a time can race each other on it. It costs from $3 for 5 minutes, $4 for 10 minutes... and I can't remember the prices after that. Luke had a BLAST! We probably won't be able to drive by again without him begging to play there.

After you're done, upstairs is the neatest teddy bear store ever. Apart from a large collection of bears, they have just about every type of stuffed animal you can imagine and the prices are decent too. It's a fun place for kids to visit.

Thanks for the good information, Jo. That sounds like a great rainy day alternative...for boys and girls. caribou.gif

Yep, it sounds like something my "big boy" would like. Thanks for the tip, Jo.

We've been to the ark before but we must have skipped the lower level. We'll have to stop again sometime. Glad that you guys found something fun to do!

I don't think that's sexist at all. Boys aren't really wired for tea parties laugh.gif

What I want to know is if you beat Erik in that racing.

Oh no, another reason we'll have to go to Estes Ark every year. My kids always make sure there is a day where the schedule includes Estes Ark so they can get their souvenir . I think the track was there last year (summer) but my son was fixated on the stuffed animal shopping. We have almost a whole zoo of animals (dogs, cats, snakes, tapirs, bears, etc.) from there. They have a great selection and cover almost all species. If they don't have it, they'll order it. One year, Santa was able to get a life size deer fawn from here for my daughter. It was a duplicate of one that is at the place we stay every year that she fell in love with when she was about 3 or 4. Bambi's Mother (the fawn-she "took care of" a small Beanie baby fawn) makes the trip with us every year.
