Just spotted the "Choc and Coke can" method in the forum - now, if you're a bit of a chocoholic and have already eaten your choc, rolleyes.gif how about this method for starting a fire using ice...Ice Method
(Apparently you can also use an icicle as the ice source)

To tell how long it will be till sunset, you just use your fingers! Hold your hand up in front of you as you face the later afternoon sun. Get the bottom of your hand (fingers horizontal to the horizon) on the horizon and just count how many fingers you have between the there and the bottom of the sun. Take that time 15 minutes. 3 fingers is about 45 minutes, 5 fingers is about 1 hour & 15 minutes, etc! Not perfect but very close!

p.s. If you have extremely skinny or extremely fat fingers, you simply will find that the sunset will be a little sooner or a little later than you predicted smile1.gif

The chocolate one and the ice one were both tried on the Mythbusters but I can't remember if they ever got a flame going.

Hi Folks, smile1.gif
To use the ice method, you need good clear ice. Anything 'cloudy' is no good.
Did a bit of looking around and came across this site that is pretty descriptive of what to look for and what to do to get success. The method is accompanied by good clear photos of what to do...
