I've hiked Rocky for many years but before each trip I really study animal behavior and habitat. The research helps me identify clues to finding the beasties when I get to the park. I also know a good deal about tracking ( I was taught by an old Apache Indian) and have gotten to be pretty good at it. I've even tracked lions, and gotten close (enought to find steaming scat) but as yet have not gotten a photo of the cat.
For some of the little guys, most bets are off--you just have to get lucky.

I wish you had been here to help my husband find the elusive elk of the Pikes Peak region the last few days. I guess it's more hamburger for me this year.

Cool Larry! I bet you've got some great memories of/with your old Apache Indian friend.
I like stories like this!
