Technically, we hadn't made it to the park yet (this was taken just north of Allenspark) but still . . .

This bear was sitting fairly close to the road, minding his own business. However, before I could get my teleconverter on my camera, some tourons tried to get too close & spooked him off. This was the best I could do for a picture, taken as he ran away.

How cool that you got to see a bear. We keep looking but have yet to see one here. They seem to have a lot of bears in Allenspark. We never saw one when we lived there, but as soon as we move out there are bear sighted right outside our former home! angerexplode.gif

Even our neighbors here in Estes saw a bear and her cub last week early one morning and we live right in town. I told them they needed to bang on our door and let us know the next time that happened, no matter how early! yup.gif

Good for you, DeeCee. Too bad the touron's had to be stupid and scare it away, but you did good on getting a pic.

Oooohhh...very exciting! Don't you wonder where the bears hide out? Although I have never seen a bear in the park, I have talked to people who were hiking the same area as we were, but a few minutes behind us, say there was a BIG bear on the trail. Another time after a long day of hiking, the manager at the condo complex where we were staying said there was a bear hanging around the trash bins on the property that afternoon.

Cool DeeCee! Lucky You! The guest book where we stayed this year said there was quite a bit of bear activity around the Sanborn / Feller cabin (on the deck, paws on window) on Upper High Drive! Hope to see one or more someday! five.gif Fox smile1.gif wink2.gif peace.gif

I saw 1 several years ago in the park. It was between Deer Junction(?) and the turn off for Bear Lake. That really narrows it done. laugh.gif It was running up the hill as fast as it could go because it was being chased by a bunch of cameras with legs. roflmao.gif roflmao.gif Husband didn't get to see it because he was driving and trying to stay on the road. We hurried around the mountain and tried to see it come across the other side but never saw it. My husband even walked up a small incline to see if he could see where it sent but didn't find it. the next while we were in the park they had a bear downtown and up a utility pole or tree and had to shut down part of the roads so that it would come back down and leave. I do have pics. of bear tracks in the snow that had walked across our porch while staying at Amberwood. Also made lots of tracks on top of the trash dumpster.

I have been going to Colorado since the middle 60's and have never seen a bear. I have seen them in nortern New Mexico. One even came prowling around our camp one night after we had gone to bed.
But nope never seen any in Colorado.

When we were at the Elk Fest Danny Many Horse told us about one being on his property. I don't know exactly where he lived he just pointed **that a way** (lol) out of town. Anyway he said one day he was outside and smelled something that smelled dead. He said he turned around and there was a bear. He said I just started talking to it real sweet like..

OMG are you kidding. I would of been screaming my head off and more than likely need a change of clothes. LOL

He never finished the story someone came up and wanted to take his picture. Obviously he convinced the bear to move on because Danny was still in one piece LOL
