(I have to admit, I'm kind of stuck on the fact that you took Tobasco sauce camping on Longs. Er... why? I can't say that would ever have occured to me.)

It's hot sauce, you know, for when it gets cold at night. blink.gif

Plus, it's a guaranteed cow repellant. You should take it everywhere. jester.gif

Tabasco sauce is my fix-all for tasteless backpacking food. If the spaghett tastes like wet rubber, add some Tabasco sauce. If the chili needs some kick, add Tabasco. If you run out of real food and have to eat oreos for breakfast, lunch and dinner, add varying degrees of Tabasco for exceptional culinary excellence caribou.gif.

BRAVO!!!

I'm so proud of you!  I feel like your mom!  I guess because I have a 25 year old son who is very independent minded and strong-willed and I could see him doing all the things you have done.

Rhonda

Thanks! I'm glad to share my adventure and pictures with all of you who gave me feedback and helped me plan this trip in the first place. You're great people and this forum is a great resource. I hope my pictures and reports can help others plan great trips to RMNP.

I was struck by what you wrote here, because it's amazing that your first summit ever was Long's Peak!  Do you think all other summits now will pale by comparison? smile1.gif

This was such a great trip report, and congratulations on your awesome accomplishment!  I felt like I was there with you as I was reading.  Thanks so much for sharing your pics and adventures!

Becky

I don't know about future summits paling in comparison. I mean, I guess it depends on the mountain. I imagine the next time I climb to the top of a "mountain" (hill) in Oklahoma and Arkansas it won't quite be the same as before, ha smile1.gif.

I imagine different mountains offer different challenges and dangers. The Keyhole Route wasn't a very technical route, just more of an epic hike with a little climbing thrown in. A friend of mine wants to take me the Cristone (?) Needle in the Sangre De Cristos. I don't that much about that mountain, but I think it would be more technical than Longs which would get my adrenaline flowing in a different way.

This is simply one of the best Longs trip reports I have ever read.  Great, great job!

Yes what he said!! Shots from every section of the route both going up and down really told the story.

Tabasco sauce is also an excellent laxative which sipped directly from the bottle. Two teaspoons will usually do it.

And a laxative is of course just what you want on the Longs Peak Trail jester.gif

Here a picture of Crestone Needle from Summitpost:

You can find out all about it here.

BTW - I really appreciated your trip report. Long's was my first summit as well, back in Sept. 04.

That was really an excellent trip report and pictures, I too, felt like I went along with you, but I'm a better rocking chair hiker when it comes to scary heighths, so I really enjoyed reading about your trip. Thanks for sharing!!

I echo everybody else's sentiments, excellent report. Right before I got on the computer I said to myself "I need a Long's fix" Boy did you satisfy that. I have a question? In your photo it appears that you could summit Longs just by walking up the boulderfield and then scramble right up. Now I know that this is not the case. I am curious to how steep it is right there and how high? I know the Diamond is lurking over the ridge to the left which would scare the hot sauce right out of me. Thanks again for your great report and congratulations! And Good Luck if you make that climb with your friend.
