A few years ago I planted a patch of aspens in my yard in Missouri. The colors aren't as good as in Colorado but they do get some yellow to them. I think it has a lot to do with the temperatures here on how the leaves do. Even if they don't turn real pretty I still have aspen to look at.

Last year on Sept. 23 we hiked the Bierstadt Lake trail starting from Bear Lake.  There was some nice color by the Bear Lake area, but the part of the trail that was really awesome was the downhill section past Bierstadt Lake.  The whole hillside was covered with golden aspens.  I'm hoping to do this hike again this year and hope the colors will be as gorgeous as they were last year.

Thanks, B-Jay!

maybe this will give you a little idea about the colors changing... it was taken i think on 8-28 on fall river road.... it's a little sideways, but that's what i get for giving the boyfriend the camera. (hopefully this works-first time posting a pic)

but overall not too much color yet. just some patches here and there. we were driving back from Moab to Boulder last Saturday on I-70 and there was a little more yellow around vail pass i think.

There's still alot of green, but there are some really intense pockets of color starting to show up.

Hey Dee, hope you had a great trip! The weather should have held up for you OK. Looked to be a good week to be in Estes.

Don't let Lori's picture scare you guys! She's just beinga trouble-maker. nono.gif While some of the lower-elevation shrubs are starting to turn bright yellow, most of the aspens are not yellow yet. However, there are pockets of yellow. I found a nice pocket along Highway 7 yesterday, just past Lily Lake. This is looking up at part of Twin Sisters.

Colors are looking really good right now at the higher elevations--Bear Lake and Glacier Gorge. They seem a little ahead of how they were last year at this time, but I think there's still more color coming.
