We saw a few aspen turning on the Longs Peak trailhead road on Sunday. There was one other place in the Park where we saw an aspen starting to turn, but I can't remember where it was. For the most part though, they are still green.

Good. Hold them off until the end of September.

I saw a few small aspens turning a bit yellow on TRR yesterday evening. But most were still totally green. :)

I don't get there until October so it will be REALLY pretty! Hey, there's a big patch of aspens on the east side of Twin Sisters that might be just starting to light up.

Good to hear they are still mostly green. I am getting a little worried - I was taking a walk here today and some of the trees here are starting to turn - just slightly. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas wanting to see those Aspens.

Me too! It's almost pathetic. Every morning I make my coworker watch the sunrise with me on the web cam. She probably can't wait for me to go so I can stop talking about Colorado...Little does she know it will probably be 10x worse when I return...and with pictures!! roflmao.gif

I haven't seen a thing. No need to worry, unless we have a storm or something.

If estes can avoid the big wind storms and a heavy wet snow, the colors should be in full bloom by mid sept through early october ... maybe even a bit beyond that.

Reading this thread is whetting my appetite! My only previous visit to RMNP was Aug '99, and now I'm heading back for the week of Sept 17-23. Will that be a good time for the Golden Aspens? I'll be doing dayhikes and 1-2 night backpacking hikes. Can anyone recommend a particular hike for the Aspens -- one that might also include a nice lake or two?

Hi, Driftwoody....

Last year on Sept. 23 we hiked the Bierstadt Lake trail starting from Bear Lake. There was some nice color by the Bear Lake area, but the part of the trail that was really awesome was the downhill section past Bierstadt Lake. The whole hillside was covered with golden aspens. I'm hoping to do this hike again this year and hope the colors will be as gorgeous as they were last year.

Have fun!
