To Malok, Glenn, AAron and anyone else taking place in the "stomp" the Pacific storm system scheduled to come in this afternoon and last through Sunday is growing stronger and may become a winter storm in estes and rmnp. I have changed the forecast on my site to reflect this but have no way to get in touch with these folks. I am sure they are aware of the change, but I don't know if they realize this storm is growing in stature and could be much stronger than expected. Hopefully Malok, who has computer access, will check back to the forum from time to time and see this information. I have updated my site to reflect the changes:
http://www.esteslive.com.

Yikes bee.gif. . . .They got up early for Thunder Lake this morning. I think that's the last of their big hikes. They are going to Erik & Joanna's tonight, and most everyone is heading back tomorrow, except Bill. . . he first thought everyone was staying over until Monday so he scheduled his flight for Monday. Do you think it could affect them getting to the airport tomorrow and Monday? Or Aaron's road trip back??????

Thanks bee.gif

We had a good hike but it was snowing hard at the end. This evening it is snowing even harder. Up here in Allenspark we already have about 4" and it looks like there is lots more to come. Hopefully this won't disrupt travel plans to the airport for everyone.

Great to hear from you Eric. I was very concerned about all of you and was hoping everything was OK. The storm is really deepening and strenthening over Boulder County where the brunt of the snow will fall. My up to 6 inch forecast for the town of Estes does not hold up for the higher elevations as you know. So that means there could be as much as foot or more in the higher elevations. Your total in Allenspark is right on the nose. As of 9:30PM Moountain Time, Estes has between 2 and 3 inches and the totals should be near or at 6 inches in town when the storm is done.

So glad all of you are OK!!

Take care,

Sandy the storm will be winding down on Sunday, and Monday should be just fine. The roads could be tricky for Aaron, but the brunt of the storm should over although there could still be some snow showers around. This is more like one of the those spring storms that do their damage in the foothill locations but lose their punch as they go east. If that holds true, Aaron should run out of the snow when he gets out into the eastern plains. One sure fire reason why I think this will happen is that Boulder at 5,450 feet (11:30PM Mountain time) is still in the rain/snow mix, and in a normal winter storm, they would have nothing but snow at this time of night.

I wish everyone a safe trip back. Sandy, be sure and check out http://www.esteslive.com for the latest information. I am just now about to post my new update in the next 5 minutes. That would be 11:40PM Mountain Time or 12:40AM Central.

Take care,

Thank you Sandy! I did want to add for Bill's trip back. The back edge of the storm is moving through and rather slowly so there are still snow showers going in and around Estes and could extend into Monday. East of Estes though and down towards Denver, there are not any snow problems as you get east of the foothills so I can't even imagine why Bill's flight would have any problems. The drive down may be a bit tricky, but once you are beyond Boulder, it should be easy driving. In fact, I have been in contact with my cohorts in Boulder, and the roads are not that bad. So once out of the higher hills east of Estes, it should be a good drive.

I hope all this information helps, and I hope it the previous weather information helped the guys who did the stomp.

Take care,

Hello all, just a little note on esteslive.com.  Esteslive died as of yesterday and is being transformed into http://boulderweathercentral.com.  The site has been secured, and will be open in the near future.  There was just not enough traffic to justify a site devoted to Estes Park.  In all my years of forecasting, I would never have expected that site to generate 5 to 10 unique hits a day.  Why that happened I don't know, but maybe because it was largely supported by folks living all over the country.  It's amazing, but I only had 2 or 3 folks from Estes coming in.  It just wasn't cutting it.

Because I spent 18 years living and forecasting in Boulder, my contacts there are numerous, and I will have a much better chance to market a product that will justfy the time I put into it.  The general theme will be forecasting for "Boulder and Beyond."  Boulder will be at the center of Weather Central, but the forecasting will go well beyond.  The good news is Estes Park and RMNP will have have a page devoted to it.  And all of Colorado will now be fair game, and this will allow me to reach out to other areas I forecasted in, for example, Vail, Aspen and Telluride.  And other important areas of the state, for example, the Colorado Springs area (of course Manitou Springs -- Russ you listening??  :-) will eventually have their own pages.  Anyway, I digress.  For this site and its direct relationship with Estes Park and RMNP, boulderweathercentral.com will not leave you out.

And of course I will continue to send snippets of weather information to this forum.  That will not change!!

More updates to come on http://www.boulderweathercentral.com!

Sincerely,
Weather bee.gif

Me too Dee, but the weather center based in Boulder will succeed because of my long history there. Although I did the weather in the Estes Trail Gazette for 8 years and for EPTV 2 years, it does not match the 18 years I did the weather in Boulder and other parts of the state. Unfortunately because I am not in CO right now, I can't really market the site in Estes, so 99% of the town didn't even know the site existed ... only out-of-towners/staters. Marketing the site in Boulder from my current location will be much easier for me, and I can tap into the 95,000 population in Boulder.

Now about that "little matter" ... neener.gif jester.gif pokefun.gif
THANK YOU!!!!

bee.gif I was wondering what happened to the site. We thought it was a problem with your server. What a shame! It was only up for a couple of weeks, not enough for people to know about it. I'm sure if you put an article or ad in the Estes paper it would take off or at least increase significantly in hits. We enjoyed visiting your site each day to keep up. So sorry it didn't work out. :( I guess I'll have to put my finger to the wind and flip a coin to figure out our weather. We'll keep our eyes on your new site.

Eric, the 2 weeks were not the reason. In the time that I have had a site up for Estes Park, which includes my previous sites, the hits coming in were quite disappointing and very sporadic. Can you imagine spending 3 hours putting together a forecast and updating the site, only to get 5 people coming in? Believe me 2 weeks was plenty to see that apathy was taking place. By going back to my roots, I stand a much better chance for success, and you will see the same quality forecasting for Estes/RMNP on that site. I also have a very strong contact and friend in the Denver TV market, and he will have much more interest in the weather center located in Boulder than in Estes. It was a nice trial for the town over the past year, but life goes on and so did the site. The site needs locals as well as tourists, and I mainly had tourists.

I hope you and others from this list come to visit the new site. There will now be much more content since the coverage will be much larger.

More to come.

Take care,
Weather bee.gif

Thanks Aaron. The site, though, is not activated yet. I'm not even sure I am going to keep it on the server where it is right now in Estes Park. If not, the new url will be put on a new server some time this week. Right now when you click on http://www.boulderweathercentral.com it just says server not found. So no rush to put in the new link until I am certain where the new home will be. I'll know in 48 hours or less.

Take care,
