well, i didn't get to experience as much as i would have liked but was still an amazing park and will be back next year. the guy i went with is a diabetic and does not take as good care of himself so i was really worried about being away from civilation for too long. we got there on satueday night (aug. 12th), went to some little bar (can't think of the name) right in the heart of Estes Park. as we pulled in the town, there was a moose or elk in front of a mexican place eating the vegitation. thought that was pretty cool. we slept in the car behind the Estes Angler that night. sunday we got out permits from the back country office and took Trail Ridge Rd. over to Grand Lake. we hit the EIT and canmped at Cats Lair. wanted to go up to Lone Pine lake but was constrained by time and needed to get back to Estes Park and get our reservations for the Thunder Lake spot. we got back to town and had a bite to eat at the Estes Brewery. as we finished our meal we got Bam-boozled by a hail storm. my buddy was not too interested in hitting the trail so he talked me into going back to Boulder and hanging out. so we did that and made a trip to Denver for a Rockies game.
wanted to stay in the park more but was at the mercy of the driver. i will definatly go back next year. going to start gettting in better shape...want to go up longs peak and maybe a couple other 14'ers around Colorado.
i want to thank everyone for giving me some good advice here. was pretty lost when i started planning for this trip. can't wait to get back to the park. was a good learning experience. got a good idea of the park this time through. will be even more prepared next time.

i am definatly hooked. i keep thinking of the scenery i caught on my way down from camp. there were a couple spots with a clear shot straight out over the lowland streams on the trail, all the way out to Grand Lake. so beautiful. i am at work, trying to figure out where i want to go next. i know i want to get in better shape and try to climb some of the 14'ers in CO.
i can't get over how amazing Estes Park is. what a great town. everyone was so darn nice to us. now i was not too impressed with the attitude i got in Boulder...but EP was a very warm mountain town feeling.

everyone was so darn nice to us.

We visited there and a week ago and I have to agree. Everybody was very nice. The people at the Grub steak were great, Fun city and the Rock shop. The manager at McDonalds was singing and seemed to enjoy his job which is not the norm here in Iowa. It is hard to be in a bad mood when you have such beautiful surroundings.

Jen used to live in Boulder which explains the attitude people have there.

didn't check out too much in EP. went to the brewery and the server there was really nice. he was not from there though. just working and playing in EP for his summer off from school.
was going to stop in the rock shop on our way out and pick up a pink rock for my G/F as a gag gift b/c she LOVES the color pink but totally forgot til we were in lyons. too late then.
