Wow what a great story Work.
Very well written. Sorry about Roy. I got goose bumps when I got to that part.
The pictures that followed are priceless.
Thanks for a great "feel good" story.

Oh, my...I missed this report the first time you posted it. Your report truly touched my heart.

Thanks so much for posting the pictures of your memorable climb.

It's nice to see old slide photos for a change. The rich blue of the sky and the details on the benchmark are awesome.

Film pictures really seem to capture it for me, more so than digital.

Great story.

I like the picture of the Narrows. The field of view vertically makes it look more imposing than others I have seen. I am not sure I like that. unsure.gif

Thanks for the story, Workrelease. That last part got my allergies kicked up wink2.gif Your story makes me think of one of the most important lessons I've learned in life up to this point: live in the moment, because the experience, the feelings, the emotions may never happen again. Thanks again, I enjoyed it.

What a wonderful story and memory.

There should have been a kleenex alert next to this thread.

Thanks so much for sharing from your heart! You willingness to share and the responses that have been posted prove once again what a great "community" this is. Your pictures were great and the narrows looked pretty scary to me as well.

Wow. Touching story and you wrote it so well. I can relate to it in so many ways. I've often sat and just looked at that mountain (even from my home) and said to myself, "someday...." Like you, I have chronic knee problems, although I have not yet had to experience the stabbing pain throughout a hike, but that is because I limit myself. Two surgeries in the last five years on one knee cause me to not attempt things I could probably do, albeit with some pain.

After reading your account I think I'm going to make it a goal and a personal challenge to tackle Longs in the next year or two. Thanks for the inspiration. Just telling your story was probably therapeutic for you and it certainly honors your longtime friendship. Thanks for sharing.

I somehow missed this the first time, as well. What a great, touching story that you shared with us, Phil. Thank you.
