I had planned for us to head down to Alber falls from the Bear Lake trailhead after we had hiked to the three lakes but by the end of that trail all I could think was find a place to sit down and rest the knees and feet!!! So we waited on it. On 7/12 we had to move our camp to a differant site and that ended up taking all of the morning. So we decided to do something pretty short that afternoon. Alberta Falls sounded perfect. We drove in to the park to the Park and Ride and took the shuttle up to the Bear Lake Trail Head. Then hiked down to Alberta Falls from there. The Falls were beautiful! The hike was short and most all down hill so it was very enjoyable up until we arrived at the falls. I had just snapped a few pictures when the first drops of an afternoon shower started to fall. It was just a few drops and no one seemed to care much since the Falls were so pretty. When the drops started to get a little harder we decided we had better head back. It was a warm afternoon so everyone had dressed in shorts and t-shirts for this short hike and no I did not take any rain gear! As we started back it began to poor. At first it was not that big a deal and then we were all dripping wet and cold as the wind picked up some. We hurried out as quick as we could to the Glacier Gorge Trail head to wait for a Shuttle Bus to take us back to our car. By the time we got to the Trail Head we were all very wet and very cold and of course the shower passed over as we walked up to the covered area at Glacier Gorge. And yes learned my lesson. No more hiking without the rain gear!!!
