Well after a full day of driving we arrived at Estes Park and set up camp. The weather was not what we were expecting. It was very cool and very wet!!!
We spent most of day two close to and in our camper because of the steady rain and cool temps. Late in the day the rain stopped for a little while and it cleared just a little so we decided to run down and take a look and a stroll around Lily Lake.
The lake was very pretty even though it was cloudy! Here are some pictures taken as we made our way around the Lake...

Nice pictures! Lily Lake is one of my favorites, and the fog/low clouds sure are pretty.
Thanks!

The rainy/cloudy weather gives a cool effect on those lake photos. Nice job!

I think the section of the park off Highway 7 is a nice secret. There are rarely too many people over there, with the exception of those climbing Longs. Twin Sisters is still one of my favorite hikes, partly due to the reduced summer crowds. And Lily Lake is perfect for the kiddos.

It's 100 degrees here this week - no rain - just hot and very humid.
Sooo - cool, rainy days sound pretty good....
Great photos and report. Lily Lake loop trail is one we enjoy taking when
we first arrive from the flatland.

Does anyone ever roll in on Highway 7 instead of 36? It is part of the "Peak to Peak Highway," which continues south for quite a ways, too. Quite scenic. I would not recommend taking the whole thing when you're in a hurry to get to Rocky, but do try turning left in Lyons and coming into Estes going past Allenspark sometime if you never have...

Amy,
Great pics! Sorry it rained so much on you guys, looks like you still had a great time though. Looking forward to more pics!!
Denise-- I do Hwy 7 every time, at least one way. You're right, a little longer, but I think it's more scenic. That view of Longs along the way is spectacular! I usually take 36 on the way home though, just for a little variety.

That's my absolute favorite route to the park! I pretty much always go that way and leave a different way - usually through Big Thompson Canyon - for variety.
Highway 7 gets a big

We take Hwy 7 often - in fact we took that route when we visited last
fall. A great route - very senic - a bit longer, but less traffic....

Best guess...what is "a bit longer?" 10 min.? 30 min? More?
