I hike the Gem Lake several times a week. Great excercise.

Agree - of all the hikes listed in the survey, gem is the one that's actually pretty steep and not so easy. Definitely the hardest on that list.

Thanks to a great thread!

We just got back from RMNP and Maroon Bells area, had a great time.

We did the following hikes:

Day 1) Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls
Day 2) Bear Lake, Bierstatdt lake, Dream lake, Nymph Lake, Emerald lake and Alberta falls
Day 3) Cayote Valley, Rock cut, Adams fall + hike upto the open views
Day 4) Maroon bells area, scenice hike around Maroon lake and Crater Lake
Day 5) Drove around park and return to DIA

Hey ds77...How long did it take you to drive to the Maroon Bells area from RMNP? Did you stay overnight or come back to RMNP?

The beginning of the trail going to Bear Lake is my favorite, but I don't know about going the whole way.

Yeah, if you go all the way to Bear Lake and back, that's what, a hundred yards?

Even so, I find that I over prepare for almost every hike I go on. I don't go anywhere without my water bottles, water filter, rain jacket, hiking shoes, extra socks, extra snacks...

When we got back from trying Flattop this year, it was raining when we got back.. There were SO many people in heels, no rain jackets, etc. I wouldn't even attempt my living room floor in 4 inch heels, let alone Bear Lake. And there were people summitting Deer Mountain in flip flops. Where did I go wrong!

I think you got the recessive sensible/reasonable gene passed to you from both parents. It's a rare defect.
