Thanks for the report, especially for the description of finding the trail. By some accounts, it sounds quite difficult to find, so your report is helpful. We are going to try and do that this summer!
August is just too far away (sigh!)

I know what you mean...I'm going in July and that is too far away for me. To help you further in finding the point where the trail branches off, tlveik has a picture on his website that shows the crossing point. Here's the link (thanks Tom!):

You'll know you've gone too far if you pass the point where Shelf Creek empties into Glacier Creek. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Last summer, my daughter and I had no trouble finding the crossing, and the first rocks were big and flat, but the last did not look too inviting. We are only 5' 1" and 5' 3", so we thought we were much too short. I didn't like the description about leaping and throwing backpacks.
We are in good shape and flexible, but how reasonable is it for us to cross?

You're right, as I remember it, it was definitely not just a simple "step across" sort of crossing. We elected to jump across, but as I remember there was also a modest-sized log across the stream at this point that we could have used as a sort of balance beam to cross (we actually did use this on the way back, as the rocks on the east side of the stream were higher than those on the west side and thus jumping W-E would have been more difficult; I forgot to mention this in my original TR as I was in a bit of a hurry when writing it and didn't edit very thoroughly). Not sure if this log had just happened to lodge there or if it is a permanent feature of the crossing point. I think the water depth wasn't too bad, maybe in the 2-3 ft. range in that area if I remember correctly.
I guess I can't really comment on whether or not you'd be able to cross. I think it's just one of those locations where each individual has to survey it when he/she gets there and make a decision as to whether or not it's doable. You could walk across the log if it's still there. If not, jumping across or wading (depending on depth, which I can't recall exactly) would be the other options. Perhaps some other forum members who've done this hike could add some comments about their experiences/thoughts on the crossing?
Best of luck!

You do have to jump to get from one boulder to the other. If it's dry, many people would find that no problem. But I can see how some would be leery to make that jump.
