This summer the Segway Human Transporter is coming to Grand Lake and RMNP. If you don't know what the Segway transporter is then Click Here.

That will take some getting used to seeing those in RMNP. I wonder where they would be used specifically?

So did anyone see any of these machines, the segway people movers, while vacationing in/around RMNP?

We saw no segway people movers when there in July. Can you use them in the rain??? ;)

I've seen several of them around my office (not in the office of course, but on the street around my office) but none in the "wild". I'm not sure how well they would perform on the trail. They don't ship with big knobby tires and are in no way high-clearance.
Having said that, they are pretty cool. I think they would be great in a big city. But, I don't think they have any place in our National Parks. Come on, this is just what the human race needs, one more reason not to walk. Aren't we slothful enough?

Lar, you're responsible for creating my favorite quote of the month! Well said, and it makes me laugh!
I think the segway people movers we just go around Grand Lake and such. That story that is linked to is a bogus link now so you can't read the original story. It talked about those people movers being based out of Grand Lake and they story also gave the impression that they would be used in RMNP. I don't know where in RMNP that would work because the roadside would be not too convenient/safe for that. Sure would take a long time travelling on Trail Ridge Road on one of those. It would be a funny visual though.

Ok, those of you with photoshop skill, give this a go: take a nice shot somewhere along Trail Ridge, and paste in a few segways from another picture (maybe from the company's website?)...
Of course, we don't really need the photoshop thing, 'cause I was laughing out loud at the mental image already! :P

You are absolutely right Prof, imagination is all that is required. Everyone, please don't mar a beautiful picture of the Trail Ridge Road with blots of Segways!
I do think the Segway has its uses though, but not in transporting people. For example, check this out. NASA spent billions researching how to create a human like robot, but had major issues getting human legs to work (balance, coordination, etc.). So, they bolted on a $4000.00 Segway and they were done! I know I'm getting off topic here, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I'm not a complete Segway hater. I just don't want them in my National Parks.

So has anyone seen any of the Segway's in Estes Park yet? I found an article about two hour tours of Estes Park via the Segway People Movers. Yep, for $75 for the two hours, you can cruise around on the Segway HT. The business offering the tours is Electric Tours of Northern Colorado, 431-A West Elkhorn Ave., Estes Park.
