I wouldn't mind a couple of good freezes to kill the bugs prior to my arrival.  But, I really am counting on the Trail Ridge Road being open most of my trip, since I'm staging out of Grand Lake.  :(

I have been out in late September/early October three times. Although Trailridge may be closed part of a day, the crews do an excellent job of getting it opened. They have all the equipment they need and know what they are doing. Unless RMNP gets hit with an unusually severe winter storm they should be able to make Trailridge passable. Who knows? I was out the first week of October two years ago and had snow in RMNP and Trailridge closed a couple of times. I was out the first week of October last year and it was in the 70s pushing 80 and no snow at all. You never know.
