2 Eagles Resort is located pretty much at the halfway point between Loveland and Estes Park on highway 34 in the Big Thompson Canyon. The property is a group of cottages, suites, cabin, and a house.
2 Eagles resort was formerly the Palisade Motel. A few years ago the property was sold and that's when it became 2 Eagles Resort. This used to be where Jenny and I would stay each summer (moreso when it was the Palisade Motel).
When we stay there we try to get the #2 unit. When we were there last (2002 or 2003?) the cottages were less clean than usual/normal. There was a dog terd on the carpet, and other small debris from either a poor job of vacuuming or none at all. I must say that I don't think we mentioned that to the owners during our stay. I'm sure they would have been embarrassed and resolved it immediately.
As I said it has been a while since we were there and the owners were relatively new to the property, although they had done a lot to improve the property. The owners are busy people so we didn't get much of a chance to interact with them as we had with the previous owners.
Within the property there is a horseshoe pit, playground for children (with locking privacy fence!), "game room" with foosball, airhockey, and ping-pong, board games and rmnp & Estes related informational books available at the office, a jacuzzi, fishing on the Big Thompson, and an area for sing-alongs at a campfire. There is also some hiking possible from the property. If I remember right you may need to check into permission issues before hiking.
The atmosphere is relaxing as the property is tucked into pine trees off Hwy 34 and near the Big Thompson river.
The rates range from $75 to $205 per night (as of Feb 2006). If you don't mind the drive of about ten miles to either Estes Park or Loveland, then give this place a look.
My overall rating for this is 3.5 Stars - Slightly above average due to the activities on site to keep the kiddos entertained. We will continue to keep this as an option for our stays while we visit RMNP.
