Didymosphenia geminata, aka 'didymo' or 'Rock Snot', is a slimey looking algae that grows in mats and confuses some to believe it is toilet paper or raw sewage. A negative to this spreading algae is the effect on trout.

this was not around when i went as a kid anywhere in colorado. i can remember perfectly clear streams all over and yet when i returned several years later it was everywhere. i hope there is a way to stop it before it gets too thick, it sure hurts the looks of the streams.
