Head for Fall River, say Hi to Smudge, look for bighorn near his lodge, head for the Fall River Entrance and drive to Bear Lake Road/Moraine Park (and maybe Many Parks Curve). This route has become a habit over the years, to survey the views (and the wildlife) of a large chunk of the east side. I'll usually stop of the Mountain Shop and browse the perpetual sale. Maybe get a fruit shake over by McDonalds. And then usually, hit the trail asap!!

I just BREATHE. It's just a relief to be in my favorite part of the world, and I love the clean air.

In summer, we go to one of the visitor centers to collect information on what evening programs and such are scheduled. I always ask the park ranger on duty if he/she could do only one hike in the park, which would it be. Then travel up the Fall River Road and back to our campsite. We have been lucky enough to visit 3 times in the winter but have not established a routine.

I first posted in this tread that the fisrt thing we do each trip is head for Old Fall River Road. That is true for the RMNP area it self, but on the way out we also stop at an REI. We stop at the one in Ft. Collins because it is on our way.
Yepper! ---- REI ---- for sure!
You have the right idea retlod!
