Nothing satisfies after a long hike like... drinking a cold beer.  wink2.gif

You beat me to that one!

Also miles are at least twice as long!

Maybe I should clarify - you really can see elk standing in the Safeway parking lot during the rut. As we drove out of town early Sunday morning on this last trip, there was a bull and his harem there and a herd of people gathered right next to them.

I went to Safeway the one night and it was hard to drive through the Parking Lot due to the Elk and the tourist.

Which brings us back to the topic of wisdom not found in the guidebooks: Single men, don't take your harem to Safeway, as the tourists will gather around you and block traffic.

Jo, as I was reading these, I was just waiting for someone to bring up water. That is SO TRUE!!! The body really dehydrates quicker in altitude. Definitely always carry plenty of water. And yes being a Texan and not having spent any time in altitude, my wife and I didn't carry water on short hikes in the beginning when we moved to CO. Wow, was that a mistake. We learned real fast. Awesome tip on your part.
