I occurred to me on a couple of occasions during this trip that there are alot of tips, techniques and pieces of information that I've picked up over the years through experience. Most of it is stuff that guidebooks would never think to mention, too. I'm sure other veterans have done the same, so I thought I'd open a thread to post these pearls of wisdom. Feel free to add yours.

1) Hair dries a whole lot faster in Colorado than it does in Mississippi.

2) On a windy day, given your choice between using the toilet at, say, the Alpine Visitors Center or Lake Irene, wait for Lake Irene.

3) Be prepared for it to take longer than "they" say it will to get anywhere (hiking or driving.)

Don't drink lots of coffee before starting any trail or driving adventure.

If you're a Texan, use extra caution while driving on snowy/icy roads in RMNP.

Thinning hair ( okay - bald ) guys better wear a hat. Burns in the summer, freezes in the winter, and sweat & rain runs into your eyes.

When you leave the trail to use the restroom in the bush, a large group of people will always be standing around when you get back to the trail. They will be smiling because they know. Boldly walk up and say, "My name is Erik Stensland and I'm pleased to meet you."
