Speaking of "mental pictures" of people, if I didn't know aaron I would picture SLOTH from the movie GOONIES

well, I would have imaged you to be that crazy doctor on smoky and the bandit...the one with the buggy eyes who kept drinking the medicine from the syringe

Gosh, I hate to disappoint...but I've worked pretty hard NOT to be the little round man with the white beard. Hope that NEVER happens! :D
Randyman, you really do need to go dip your toes in the East Inlet...we always go to Adams Falls and then hike a while on up the inlet. This always involves taking our shoes off and getting IN the inlet, too! The kids love it!
If you turn LEFT instead of right at the west side visitors' center (going up from Grand Lake, into the park), and follow that road around (DON'T SPEED!), you'll come to a little bridge over the Colorado River and a place to park. Stop there and spend some time "on the beach" and wading around in the river. Even in August the water is frigid, and it's great for perspective to think about that creek joining up with other flows to make the Grand Canyon. Not everything is as it seems...
I debated about posting the photo...but I thought the "bucket hat" was sufficiently goofy to qualify for this board!

Actually, if you continue on the trail from Adams Falls, it goes on to Lone Pine Lake and Lake Verna. I've got some pics somewhere...
All in all, a very nice section of trail. And the lakes are well worth the trip. Not sure about mileage and elevation gain, but I'm sure its posted on one of the hiking sites. Been MANY years since I've been to these lakes.
Someone in another thread was looking for an easy hike, the walk to Adams Falls is short, quite easy, and the falls are quite impressive.
Oh, and don't forget Grand Lake Ice Cream, as long as you are on the west side of the park. :D

Oh, DeeCeeM! This is priceless! :D I can't believe I didn't think of this, especially given my "hobby." Years ago, before kiddos and when I cared more about looking older than the folks in my classes, I tried to wear a different tie every day to see how long it took before anyone noticed...well, I don't wear ties very often anymore, but I do collect MUGS and take a different one to class in the same attempt to see who's noticing. It usually takes 3 or 4 WEEKS, not classes, before anyone catches on! On the shelves in my office I have more than a semester's supply of mugs, +60 and counting! Now students bring me mugs from their jobs and travels to add to my collection. I'll take the digital camera to the office next week and get a quick shot of my other "mugs" and post it. Again, this is too funny and I'm glad you thought to do this!

I did, but the posted pictures just aren't sharp like Erik's or DeeCeeM's. There probably is an easier way to do it, but I will have to play some more with the program.
I will post more photos on the forum in the future. :D

Scouter,
I am not a native Arkie, so my knowledge of the area is growing over time. It is kind of like a thread over on AroundColorad about a Colorado exchange program...folks tend to see the "grass is greener" somewhere else, and want to go to those places while not noticing what's around them. To that end, I have "reached out" to a good friend here to help me learn more about hiking in AR and we will be doing some this fall...not as a replacement for missing CO this year, but just because hiking is great and there really are some amazing places right here close by. Thanks for the photo and the reminder...both from the specific spot of your photo and the quote...that there are great opportunities for being outdoors almost anywhere. B)

QUOTE (Malok @ Jul 27 2004, 02:31 PM)
Oh, I'm a little disappointed ProfHall. I was expecting the Professor to be a round little man with a big white beard, and dark rimmed glasses, sort of an educated looking Santa.
Just a heads up that this subject will quite possibly show up soon in the form of a poll.
Marvman
(depending on how much threatening ProfHall does)
