On Wednesday, Daniel had a friend call and ask if he wanted to go to a wedding in Loveland.. Daniel would have to reschedule a test in Real Analysis to Thursday evening instead of Friday, but his response was ROADTRIP!

He called me and asked me the name of my cousin who lives in Loveland.. so they would have a place to stay after the wedding on Friday. They made it this far by 12:30 Thursday night.. and headed for Colorado on Friday morning.

After the wedding and a family visit in Loveland, they headed for Rocky on Saturday morning.

One of Daniel's favorite areas in the park is the Bear Lake area, so that's where they headed for first. I do know they passed Nymph and Dream on their way to Emerald, but with the fog and snow, I don't recognize these lakes!

I think I forgot to post these!

They had planned to spend the night on the west side of the park, but lack of views and road closures dictated that they stay on the east side. They were able to get a campsite for the night at McGregor Mt. campsite.

After leaving Bear Lake, they headed for the Lumpy Ridge area.

Paul Bunyan's boot. Always a favorite.

Looks as if it cleared up a little in this area.

The boys left their packs at the Bridal Veil falls turn-off. They had to be quick to make it there, and to their campsite before dark.. but they ended up leaving their cameras in their packs! No photos of the falls!

A few pictures from the hike out the next morning...

They had to try one last time for Trail Ridge Road, but it was not to be...

.. and so their trip came to an end..

8 hrs. to get there. Snow and fog while there. No views from TRR. TRR road closed, after they had heard it was open. Forgetting a camera for Bridal Veil Falls. Sleeping in a soaked sleeping bag. Ice crystals forming in the tent while they slept. 8 hrs. to drive back to college.

What a fantastic weekend! They were in the mountains.. and Matthew had his first glimpse of Rocky! (Suppose he'll go back?)

Great, great photos! Absolutely love them and wish I were there.

I don't know about most folk, but I love seeing beautiful places socked in with fog and sleet...
Probably because it doesn't happen that often (that people capture it too), but I have a good feeling Matthew will be back for more.

Thanks for posting Lynette!

REAL ANALYSIS!! mathguy's "math major radar" just lit up. Is Daniel an undergraduate or graduate student?

As for their trip it looks like they made the best of an uneven weather situation. Nice pictures!

Daniel is an undergraduate. He will graduate next May, probably with 3 degrees: Secondary Education with concentrations in math and theology, and Math, and Theology. You would think that the second two would be a given with the first.. but the degrees take a lot of different classes. He will definitely have the first 2.. the Education B.S and the Math B.A. (I think the math degree is a B.A., although I wouldn't swear to it.). The Theology degree is a "maybe". Three degrees in 4 years.. with a 3.99 GPA for the first 3 years.. not too shabby!

Also of note.. He was accepted into an REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at Illinois University in Normal, IL this summer. It sounds as if it's an excellent opportunity: math research...and he gets paid and earns college credit. How cool is that?

Lovely views and a trip so fast that surely it is only for the young!
