Hey everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well. I'm finally back after an 8 week break from social networking. It was a great time and really helped me to re-prioritize. I think I may make such breaks a regular practice. Try it some time I think you'll like it, once you get over the first week of shakes. Well, it wasn't the best time from a photographic standpoint but this week I finally got things moving again as spring has arrived here in RMNP. I'll post a bunch of photos taken over the last few weeks.

Before I do this I just want to make mention of something for everyone to be aware of before coming to RMNP this summer. Back in mid-November we had a terrible wind storm. I'm finding that nearly every trail in the park has many trees which have been blown down. I was on a trail the other day that was so bad that I couldn't see the trail for about half a mile due to all the fallen trees. The NPS is aware of the problem but just doesn't have the resources to handle all of it right away. I think they are starting with the most popular trails and slowly working towards the others. If you plan to hike on any of the less popular trails, be prepared for facing large areas of fallen trees.

One last note before the photos. My spring newsletter is out. You can find it here. Make sure you view these photos Large! Just a disclaimer, a few of them are a bit blurry due to the fact that I resized them too large for this software. If you want to see them as they ought to be you can always go to my website: www.ImagesofRMNP.com

I shot this one earlier this week and was so pleased that this bird actually came to help me out. Whoever you are, thank you!

This was Longs Peak on Wednesday evening

20120404_estes-valley-f0g_7.jpg
On April 4th we had thick fog so I climbed up onto Lumpy Ridge to see what would happen. Here's my view prior to sunrise.

20120404_estes-valley-f0g_38.jpg
Here's my view that same morning about 10 minutes later as the sun rose. I'm so happy those clouds parted for me.

20120403_dream-lake_28.jpg
This was Dream Lake on April 3rd. Now the lake is mostly clear of snow and ice.

20120404_on-flattop_52.jpg
On April 4th after the fog I skied up to the top of Flattop to get this view of Hallett Peak. It was so warm that I skied up in shorts and t-shirt and ended up with one of the worst sunburns I've ever had. Oh well, it was a great day to be in the mountains.

Here's Estes Park and Longs Peak. I have a lot of photos from this amazing morning.

Pasque flowers are out in abundance right now. This was taken last night at Lily Lake and the others from various parts of the park over the last couple of days.

Here's a lichen covered rock which grabbed my attention. It looks like something from under the ocean.

pbook.jpg
Here's the new Estes Park phone book with my photo put on there at a very awkward angle.

20120412_gallery-construction_2.jpg
Finally, here's my gallery. They are doing major road construction right now around it and today the gallery will be closed because I can't get in. If all goes well, we should be back up and running tomorrow.

Thanks for letting me post so many photos. I was actually quite restrained as I have many more than these. Yikes!

Rhonda, you are probably right! I am such a perfectionist and simply can't understand how they could make such a mistake. Oh well, I'll get over it in a decade or two.

Wow! These are terrific shots Erik!

With regards to the phonebook cover, they should have allowed you to see a final copy before press. No?
I guess that idea has been falling to the wayside in recent years. Well.., there's always next year, right?
btw, I think it's a fine shot, but I understand that's not how you want it represented. Grrr...

So good to see all of your photos. I love the flowers in the park and have never been there early enough to see the very first ones. Maybe an spring visit will be necessary in the future! You captured some gorgeous images this week and I'm always glad when you share them with us. I need a lot more of your photos on my wall.

Good to see ya back, Erik. As always fantastic pictures but I like the lichen one a lot, a lot of different types of lichen on one rock. A bit unusual.
