I had missed the last two weekends due to visiting family and I was eager to get up and build an igloo which worked out well for SkiBudFrank and family.
We left the trailhead shortly before 8:00 am and headed up the Park trail on a lovely soft fresh coating of snow on top of a well packed base. Only the big rocks would inhibit a skier coming down and the fresh snow felt great with the snowshoes.
We got up to about 10,000 ft. and headed off into the woods looking for a place out of the wind with the best view we could find. We didn't find a spot with a good view right from the igloo but we found a beautiful little spot right down hill from a boulder as large as my house. The spot offered a good view just a short distance from the igloo and many little nooks and slopes the kids will be able to play on.
There was even a nice little hollow in some trees that we used as a base for lunch while building the igloo that gave us shelter from the falling snow.
The snow was great to work with and the igloo went up with ease:

It was a pretty little spot to build the igloo in:

Looking down along the huge boulder gave a bird's eye view of the igloo site:

We stopped for a few breaks but it wasn't long either before we were closing in the top of the igloo:

It did get late enough in the day that the light turned flat but what a great igloo site:

It had nearly stopped snow by the time we headed home so I tried a picture with a flash, only a few snowflakes showed up:

I think the snow is going to collect deeply in the igloo site though and we might need to build another igloo before the season is over.

That igloo should last a long time sheltered by the big rock.

Thanks for noticing!
I was off having fun with my kids. Felt great to winter camp in the MN woods in some fresh snow. Had a great fire on a cold night.

Hi Everyone, sorry for the short message with the pictures. It took a while to get the pictures uploaded correctly. I want to share the experience of building an igloo and how it builds camaraderie between individuals. It's a great way to spend the day outside with friends. The igloo is in a beautiful location that the pictures don't display. There's a small unamed pond about 40 yards away. At the back of the pond is a drainage that has a canopy of large fir trees and a large rock about 40 ft. tall. A small cave is hidden under the rock. The drainage is also a nice ski run. A great distance to take kids and let them experience the outdoors! Ed likes to make patios and the kids love to run around on the paths.
