Not much snow has fallen since last weekend and the trail heading towards Nymph Lake had a few long sections of glare ice. The snow along the edges was soft in places or at least not glare ice and I did fine without any traction devices for my feet.
I turned off on the route I was up last weekend but today I was heading for Haiyaha to check out the ice in spite of the high winds forecasted. The part of the route we traveled last weekend was hard enough that I booted it most of the way to the lake:

With the early snow this season and the ground still being warm, water is seeping out of the cracks of rocks:
Seep.jpg

Snow on the tops of rocks melted and formed icicles that have now been shaped by the wind:

I was quite enthused with the amount of ice I was seeing so I went over to check out the leak stream coming from Haiyaha and found a babbling little falls partially covered in ice:

A small shelf of ice suspended above a small section of the babbling falls with currents crossing over the falls:

I followed the Park trail for a while but then headed into the woods to check out the conditions on my regular winter route. I had booted it until I headed into the woods where the snow was deeper and unpacked.

I followed the Park trail out to the lake and got my favorite view of "Her Majesty" standing out prominently with blowing snow behind her:

I went out on the lake and found a bit of interesting ice but the big ice won't come until the lake drops another four feet or so:

Some ice fell back into the lake and got recast into solid ice again:

Do I see John bowing as he reaches Chiefshead's false summit:

I was having such good luck finding ice that I figured I'd go check out Beard Falls again and put a little time into taking a few shots:

Yep, a good ice day time to head out:

Ok. I've never heard black ice referred to as glare ice before but it makes perfect sense.

Gee, your report brings a whole new meaning to the term ice. Down here it is just what we put into "ice" tea!!
Looks like a grand day to be in Rocky. The formations are really neat.

Great pics. Just don't often see such great ice before it is covered with snow.

Thanks Becky. Indeed on the covered with snow.... I got to thinking last night and I neglected to try using a flash yesterday so I went up to take some more pictures today. Heh, it was a raging blizzard and I knew it wasn't going to happen but it's a fun route that I just couldn't resist with the fresh snow we got since yesterday.
This is what the falls looked like today:

Snowing to hard to use a flash but...
