This is what I came for. My old bones won't let me hike as many miles as Kristin and Sandy can knock out in a day, so I take my tent several miles into the backcountry and then the next day hike to places that would otherwise be out of my reach. Here is Jeff at the Trailhead.

Lower Copeland Falls.

On the way to the upper falls Jeff and I got separated. I assumed he went on so I headed up the trail but after 20 minutes I hadn't caught up so I figured maybe he was still back at the falls. I backtracked and he wasn't there. So I headed up a second time and finally caught him taking a break at Calypso Cascades. We made a plan to keep that from happening again and headed on to Ouzel Falls.

Once we got to the burn area the views of Longs Peak and Meeker open up nicely.

As we walked long, Jeff suddenly stopped and told me to look ahead. Just off the trail was this big guy. We got some better shots but this was our first view.

The views of Ouzel Peak got better and better as we near our campsite.

This hike has LOADS of wildflowers.

Finally at camp.

This is the best campsite I've stayed at in RMNP. Below the tent pad are a couple of benches where we watched the sun set on Copeland Mountain and later the stars came out.

Camp is 10,600' above sea level. It was a GREAT day!

I like the looks of that campsite.
How great to see the moose so close up.

John,

You're only a year ahead of me, and I'm like a foot shorter than you. I think you tent because you don't like to shower.

Tomorrow's hike is a great one. I can't wait for the report.

That's a great looking campsite. The trail to Ouzel Falls is where I ran into the momma moose and two young 'uns.

Always love hiking up that burn area in Wild Basin but the views at that camp are special.
