On Tuesday August 30th I headed up to Black Lake via the Glacier Gorge TH and Mills Lake. One of my objectives for this hike (besides the fact I love Black Lake) was to see if I could find the right area for the cutoff to Shelf and Solitude Lakes ( which I did find so next trip we'll give that hike a go) It was a beautiful day in the mountains. I started around 6am and returned to the trailhead a little after 11am. I had Alberta Falls, Mills Lake and Black Lake all to myself and you just can't beat that :smile1:

Just as I was getting back to the Glacier Gorge TH I ran into Diane H (my hiking partner for later in the week) it was great seeing her on trail - she was also heading to Black and up above for the day.

Relaxing on the rocks at the Shelf/Solitude cutoff - could've enjoyed this view all day!

Nice hike.

Did you try crossing the stream toward Shelf to make sure you could do it? You didn't fall in trying to show me how to cross did you? Wait, that would be Kristin.

Isn't it wonderful taking off really early in the morning???!!! I love hiking early! It's SO quiet and you feel like you've got the whole park to yourself....VERY cool!!!

I love that pic with your feet up....just chillin'! Next time you're here, we should stroll out that way and I can show you an awesome frolicking spot JP, Lora and I found. JP named our spot "JP Island"....fitting, I guess, since he WAS the one who spotted this special place. :) The three of us frolicked there for a while and had a really fun time! The views were SO cool!

I also really like that pic of your new buddy Otis. That shows the side of Otis where Ed, JP and I did our cool (but kinda scary) climb up. Aaaahhh, what a day THAT was!
