Couldn't you also park at the Shuttle Lot then start at Bear Lake and head downhill from Bierstadt back to the Shuttle Lot?

Sure.
And you can park at Hollowell Park, get the two shuttles up to Bear Lake, and walk back to Hollowell. There are lots of options.
The Bear Lake to Bierstadt Trailhead is probably the shortest, though. HPH

Which is the reason we'll be taking it on our first day. Thanks for the input guys, this should make our trip much more enjoyable.
