We saw this same group that evening. Part of them were on one side of the road and part were on the other. This time the moms were calling for their babies.
We decided not to take the Mount Ida Trail and just head on over Trail Ridge since we hadn't been to the west side of the park during the trip. I've heard some people say it is ugly over there. I disagree. Yes, it is different with all of the gray trees, but in my mind, it is far from ugly. We stopped at Lake Irene and were rewarded with this beautiful reflection.

On down the road we stopped at a picnic area that had been totally cleared of trees. There was only one car there, so I wasn't really thinking that there would be moose. I'm not sure why we stopped, but we did and discovered there was a moose with 3 calves. We watched them for a long time, but since we just have a point and shoot our pictures are far away. For awhile the mom was playing in some water. The calves didn't stay right beside her, but she definitely kept and eye on them. By the time we left, many cars had stopped, so I guess we drew a crowd! (Or maybe it was the moose family!)

We headed on over to Grand Lake, but we were so early that Grand Lake Chocolates wasn't even open yet, and I had no huge desire to wait even though a Death By Chocolate cone would have been wonderful! As it turned out, I'm sure glad we just headed back over toward the east side of the park. We stopped at the store up at the Alpine Visitor Center, because I wanted to see Erik's photos displayed. By the way, the trail up above the store is closed this year for some reconstruction. However, a group of idiots climbed right over the orange fence and were trudging up the tundra. Sometimes people are just plain amazing. Anyway, we looked over and saw cars coming up OFRR. Apparently it had opened the day before, but we hadn't heard the news. Well, being the crazy kids that we are, we headed right on down after checking out Erik's photos so that we could come up OFRR. It is tradition, you know!
Here's a view of Chasm Falls. This might have just been the day for idiot behavior, because some kid climbed out on the rock in the middle at the top of the falls. One slip and they would have been recovering a body, because there was a lot of water coming down. I was thinking about the tragedy that had occurred at Yosemite the week before. Thankfully, this didn't turn out that way, but you had to wonder where the responsible adults were in the party.

This was our lunch spot located right before the Forest Canyon Overlook.

There were a lot of people in the park, so we spent much of our last afternoon hanging out at our campsite. Ken found something pretty cool to watch from the rock at our site.

This guy hung around for quite awhile.

So there you have it, the Wilson edition of another trip to one of our favorite places this side of heaven.
