Today the intent was to summit Longs Peak but those plans changed as my son's girlfriend started having issues around Goblin's Forest. She refused to eat or drink anything and was needing to stop alot to sit down and rest. We finally got her to eat at Alpine Brook and after resting there a little bit we trudged on. She's a big Finding Nemo fan so my son and I started singing "Just keep swimming.....just keep swimming" and this helped for a while. When we got to Chasm Junction & I checked our pace to that point I decided to pull the plug and just head to Chasm Lake - it was a beautiful day and I know trudging along time-wise we could have made the summit but after going to Chasm Lake and seeing how uncomfortable she was with a little rock scrambling and also was very uncomfortable with the drop off from the Chasm Lake trail to Peacock Pool, I'm glad we didn't take her any higher. It was still a great day and the Chasm Lake area is really beautiful. One the way back to Chasm Junction we thought about going down to Peacock Pool but as we started down the boulderfield, my son stepped on the wrong rock and went sliding (only 10-20 feet) but this really unnerved his girlfriend so we headed back up to the trail and continued on home. My son asked me if I was scared when I saw him slip.......my reply........"no cuz I saw you stop" :smile1:

We had originally planned on doing Chasm when we were there, but we decided not to because of the snowfields. Now, I wish we had done it. Great report.

I love your sunrise photo!
Chasm meadow is so beautiful. You make me want to go back there.
I'm glad the day turned out to be a good one. It's good you made Chasm Lake a plan b and didn't turn around and back when you knew Longs was probably a no go.

A great series of reports and pictures from your trip! Chasm is one of those hikes I have to do. I really want to see the Diamond from that perspective.
