One person in our immediate family has now done Longs Peak.

We dropped Daniel off at the trailhead just before 7:00. I was a little worried because he wouldn't have Joshua with him, but it was a goal he needed to complete. So, with the usual warnings about being off the summit shortly after noon.. and being careful... you know, the usual "Mom ones" as we let our children do what they need to do...he headed out and Dave, Joshua and I headed up to Ute Crossing.

He was trying to see how fast he could do his first time up, so he didn't even stop to take ANY pictures on his way to the keyhole.

Again, I have no clue what lakes or peaks we are looking at, but it looks beautiful.... and rugged.

He wasn't exactly by himself. Lots of others picked this Saturday to summit Longs.

My guess would be that is Blue Lake just above the center of the picture.. (looks a LOT like where Dave and I were the day before)... and Jewel and Mills above that.

Again, Blue just to the left and below of center, Mills and Jewel just to the right and above?

The summit.

The marker says 14,255'. Is there a higher marker? I've read 14,259'. Don't tell me he wasn't on the summit!

He made it start to finish in 6 hours and 30 minutes... 3 hours 13 minutes on the way up. Pretty good for the first time. He's not sure how long it took him to come down because he didn't stop and restart his watch while he was on the summit.

We finished out our evening with a ranger program at the Moraine Park campground. This one was on Trail Ridge Road. Unfortunately, the projector quit partway through the program and the ranger had to cut her program short.

Three deer made their way behind the amphitheater while we were waiting for the program.

Awesome report Lynette - yep there was a lot of people on the mountain that day - we signed the register at the trailhead at 3am and there were already 4 pages of people signed in - we made the decision to just go to Chasm Lake as my son's girlfriend was having some issues and at her pace it took us 3 1/2 hours just to get to Chasm Junction.

Great job, Daniel. I hope Joshua gets to go next time and doesn't slow you down too much. You were fast!

I'm so impressed with how well your son did.
He sure did take some excellent pictures, too.
