How ironic. I was going to do the same route without shoes in Sept. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, Ed said probably the first time barefoot via the tourgh. Has someone gone barefoot another way? I had someone pass me in a marathon at about mile 22 barefooted one time but that was on rockless asphalt. This is beyond comprehendible!!!! Great job.

The foot-toughening regimen leading up to this ability must be, um, serious. Tough. Leathery.
But it's clearly true that people (or proto-people) once did all sorts of things without shoes, and our genes haven't changed all that much since then. Softies that most of us are, the potential is still there, as all this demonstrates.
Years ago, when I did just a little technical climbing, a friend told me that people had climbed the Third Flatiron above Boulder all sorts of ways: barefoot, sure; but also in swim fins and roller skates, among other self-imposed handicaps.
So: who's going to try the Trough in roller skates? Any takers?
