I just read on the Denverchannel.com that a climber fell on Long's Peak, and broke his leg. I don't know how to transfer the story to here, sorry. But just thought I would let you all know.

Let me help.

Story from DenverChannel.com

Sounds like the hiker made the summit....although, not by the means he probably would have wished. He was lucky to get such a quick response. He might not have been so lucky on another 14er.

twocents.gif I find it so remarkable that there just happens to be a nurse or Doctor on hand on the trails when needed. We are certainly sorry to hear of the hikers fall.

Poor guy!! Speaking as one who broke her leg 8 years ago, I feel very sorry for anyone in that situation. It's painful and very inconvenient for a long time.

But when it happened to me, even as I lay on my patio with a compound fracture waiting for the ambulance, I said to my husband "At least this didn't happen at 12,000 feet on a trail!" I guess I was thinking about that because it was May 1997 and we had a vacation to RMNP planned for June. I had to cancel that trip due to my condition and I literally cried on the phone when I cancelled our cabin reservation.

Like Slowpoke said, at least he made the summit!

That's what I was thinking - at least he made it to the top. What a nasty thing to have happen. I'll bet that was a painful wait and trip to the top.

Here's the latest on this man that broke his leg. It appears that the early 'facts' were wrong. He did make it to the top on his own and headed back down after seeing snowflakes. On his way down his leg buckled and he 'fell' and broke his leg in two places. The rescuers then brought him back up to the summit for an overnight departure via helicopter. That was aborted due to high winds. The next helicopter attempt was somewhere near the boulderfield which was also aborted due to high winds. The rescuers took him all the way back to the trailhead. Here's a link that goes to a story with all these details as well as video of the man talking about his ordeal, Click Here!!

Lucky guy to make it off the mountain. These search and rescue teams are really admirable. Good thing he didn't forget his camera on top or they would have had to go back up for it.

Considering all that has happened in the Park this year, he is very very LUCKY to walk away with only a broken leg. I'm just glad it wasn't worse.
