Our plan for our first full day in the park was to hike to Bridal Veil Falls. Although the trail is 6.4 miles long, it is flat for most of the way, and I thought it would be a great hike for early in our week. Also, it had been many years since we hiked the trail and I had heard the flowers were awesome and the falls were flowing full. When I left the trailer, I was greeted by this awesome sunrise and a woman doing some slow motion type of Yoga in front of the restroom building. I only photographed the sunrise though!

It turned out to be a day that was mostly overcast, but since the trail starts out over open meadows, that was not a bad thing. The trail actually begins on a road at the old McGraw Ranch. The buildings there have been restored on the outside and are used for different research now. I asked my handsome husband to pose for a picture at the beginning of the trail. Not bad for a guy that will be 65 in a couple of weeks!

Before we were very far down the trail, we realized that the wildflowers were every bit as beautiful as we had heard. This is my favorite photo from the day.

Once you get closer into the stream again, the trail begins to climb more, but it is so delightful to hike along with the sound of rushing water. There weren't many other people on the trail either, so the solitude was also nice. We continued to enjoy the flowers and many butterflies along the way. Becky shared a lot of butterflies, but we didn't seem to be quite as lucky at getting clear shots of them. it was fun to watch them flitting from flower to flower though!

Of course, since we hiked to a waterfall, I guess I'd better include of couple of pictures of Bridal Veil Falls. We enjoyed watching a dipper while we were up there and visited with a couple who lived near Joplin and whose son and his family had lost their home and both vehicles in the tornado. We told them about the forum, and I decided that the next time we go out I'm going to make up some little cards to give to people when we share about the forum so they could remember it when the get off the trails.

Our hike back to the trailhead was uneventful, but we sure soaked in a lot of beauty along the way. I'm so glad we decided to add this hike our agenda while we were in Rocky!

Love the wildflower picture. Wish we had gone on to the falls, maybe next time. From your beautiful pics, I know that I missed a gem.

The flowers are so pretty, what a wonderful sight to see. Like your idea of the little cards telling people about the forums.

Wow, Marsha,
I can see why that floral picture is your favorite of the day! It's a gem.
The falls are splendid, too! I'll be adding that to a future agenda of ours.

What beautiful wildflowers! I love that photo, too! And the falls are still flowing very full for late July. Those are great pictures, Marsha. I love this hike.

Hope it's ok that I used your wildflower photo as my background image. I will pay you royalties if you want.

Wow! That is such a beautiful sunrise, a great way to start the day.

I especially like the shot of you and Ken by Bridal Veil Falls.
