This would turn out to be a little different vacation for the two of us. Our hikes were shorter, slower, and lower than most since I was in the midst of a fibro flare, but it was still great to be in the park. The weather was beautiful all week and we had a great campsite, but more about that tomorrow. We arrived in Estes Park in mid-afternoon, July 24th, and checked into the Saddle and Surrey Motel over on Hwy 7. The reviews I had read indicated it was nothing fancy, but that it was immaculate and comfortable. That proved to be true. It was a cute room and although it would be small for a whole week, it was ideal for a night's stay. After we got settled, we headed into the park and went to Hollowell Park and had a picnic at a table with a superb view.
After we finished eating, we climbed up the ridge above our table.
We decided to go check out the Alluvial Fan before returning to our motel. The water was flowing fast and furious. I'm always amazed to see how the area is recovering since the flood in '82. It was such a beautiful evening and the spray from the falls felt good.
The next morning we would be heading into the park for a six night stay at Moraine Park. We went to bed hoping that the occupants of Site 139 would check out early, so we could set up fairly early in the day.
