I had fantastic luck with coyote sightings during this trip. One evening I was in Upper Beaver Meadows when I saw this begin to emerge from the undergrowth.

I excited to see that it was a pair of coyotes with their four pups. I was only able to get three of them in any one picture. They didn't like standing still.

The pups and parents hung out along the road for some time. The pups were adorable and very healthy looking.

The mother settled down for a few minutes and then stood and she and the family disappeared in the meadow.

She was a beauty!

A few days later I swung through Upper Beaver Meadows again and saw this guy cross the road in front of me. You can see in the pictures how easy it is for a coyote to blend into the undergrowth.

I also caught a video of him as he had a bit of a snack which I hope to upload soon.

And finally, on the last day, we swung through Horseshoe Park to see if there were any bighorn. No bighorns, but two coyotes working the field looking for breakfast.

Now to work on all the other pictures from the week!

I had never seen a coyote before this trip. We were awakened in our tent one night by coyotes howling about 2:30 in the morning. We saw several, too. One right in town in front of Domino's Pizza. Another was just outside of town by the National Park sign. I saw a third on in Upper Beaver Meadows walking down the road. Wonderful pictures! I didn't even try.

We also could hear the coyote howling.
We had a coyote encounter in Moraine Park.
He certainly did not seem to shy away from us
each time he passed by. Darn, I did not have my camera.

Lynette, we were serenaded one morning from about 6:00-6:30 with a yipping chorus on the hillside by our cabin, but I never caught sight of the singers.

Becky, it won't let me view this image. It says "This video is private. Sorry about that."

All right! It works, now. Glad I could see it. Great capture!

Excellent, Becky!
I was kind of startled when we heard them that evening at your cabin. They sounded so close.

I love seeing the coyotes in the park. You captured some great pictures of them, too. They look really healthy even with such a snowy, long winter to overcome. One year we saw a family of coyotes in Horseshoe Park, too. Mom, Dad and the pups were playing and jumping and chasing each other in the field. Dad was very protective of the pups. They are so much fun to watch.

We saw a few too. One was in Hollowell Park when we hiked to Mill Creek Basin and the other was right in the meadow by our campsite. I did get some pics of that one, so I'll post it later.

Great captures of the coyotes, Becky! I especially like the shots of the coyotes and wildflowers.
