While reading a virtual copy of the EP News, I came across an ad for the Rocky Mountain Opry which has shows at the Park Village Theater next to The Other Side Restaurant. I'm wondering if anyone has "the word on the street" about these shows. If there are good reviews, I will think about going to a show in September.
I've never been to Nashville, but I would make a point to visit the Grand Ole Opry if I did go there. I'm wondering if the Rocky Mountain Opry in Estes Park would be similar.

Since I was curious about this show, John and I got tickets for the Old Time Rock and Roll Show, which was performed on Thursday evening. They actually have five different shows in their repertoire--2 different variety shows, the rock & roll show, a country jubilee, and memories of John Denver. They seat you at tables to accommodate at least 4 people or larger tables for bigger groups. The cost was $23/person. Snacks and drinks are also available for an additional cost. The theater is next to the Other Side Restaurant right off Moraine Ave. or Mary's Lake Road.
The rock and roll show was a delight. There were lots of oldies which I had not heard in ages, but remembered once the band started playing them. The talented group played a variety of instruments throughout the show. The music director and lead vocalist was once an original member of The Tokens. Anyone remember The Lion Sleeps Tonight? Brad Fitch, guitarist, singer and song writer from Estes Park, also performs with the group on Thursday nights.

We shared a table with a delightful couple (Gary & Dee) from Texas. When he walked in, Gary was carrying a couple of fleece throws and pillows. Since he and his wife had attended a show previously, he said he came prepared and offered one of the throws to me to put on my chair. It made the chair much more comfortable and when it got a little too cool in the theater later in the evening, the throw was warm and cozy. I never would have come up with that idea!
I thought I would pass on this information if anyone is looking for some entertainment while in Estes Park in the summer/fall. I would definitely be interested in seeing one of their other shows the next time I'm in town.

I bet that was a good show, Bobbie! And thank you for the sample, John. That song always reminds me of my senior year in high school when it was so popular (1972).

I'm glad you posted something about the show, Bobbie. I kept meaning to ask you how you liked it. Hopefully, we will give it a try next year.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight or also known at times as Wimoweh (sp ? ) and originally Mbube ( Zulu for lion ) was done by The Tokens in 1961 { also done by many many other artists }. Was written by Soloman Linda in the 1920s.
