Went for an easy stroll on Independence Day in some pretty warm if not hot temps. I tried to cross Tyndal Creek where I normally cross it on my way to Mill Junction but the water was way to high and falling into the stream wouldn't have been good.
I found a place to cross Tyndal Creek above it's confluence with Chaos Creek but could find a crossing for Chaos C. I decided that I would head up Chaos C. to Haiyaha. I was hoping to get some good waterfall pictures but the sun was already up and the lighting was terrible.
I did find this little guy though that seemed to be enjoying the spotlight:

As I traveled up along the creek, I tried to come up with half ways decent lighting and a good perspective:

I'll need to return when the lighting is better as there is some very good subject matter:

The water was flowing very high and violent:

I followed the stream up to Beard Falls and had never seen it flowing so full:

That's a lot of water. I think we'll probably still find some snow and full creeks when we come in 20 days. I'm hoping for some great wildflowers, too!

Beings as I was so close I decided to have lunch on Knob 3 and noticed this view as I was sitting there enjoying myself:
Lunch.jpg

After lunch I decided to head up on top of Knob 2 and got this picture of Hallett:
Hallett.jpg

From the south side of the knob I got a good view of Haiyaha and Chaos Canyon with ALL the snow that is still there:
Haiyaha.jpg

From the top of the ridge, I headed along the ridge towards Hallett but then dropped down to the back of Haiyaha to check for litter at the Stomp Camp behind the lake. Happy to say I didn't find anything, the camp was clean, although there is still snow that needs to melt and I'll need to check again later this fall.
I made a loop around the lakes south side and headed back down the trail to Dream Lake. There were very large and hazardous drifts just before reaching Dream but with a little patience I was able to put a route together to get past the drifts.
The snow is nearly rock hard now and I only fell into the snow a couple times and postholed a few times all day long. Most areas below Haiyaha are snow free except the big drifts.
A great day with part of it being on bare ground and rock and the other part of the day being on the hard snow.

All these pictures are great, but I particularly love the first one.

That water is incredible, wish it would still be like that in Sept. Great photos.

Very nice Ed. We are going to have to get out there in June some year to see the full creeks and roaring falls.

Amazing how much snow is still around. Love seeing the water at full force.
