  • Favorite RMNP Hike: Donut Haus Walk

Posted 25 June 2011 - 08:19 AM

We are back in Estes Park for another year and even though this review has been done before, I have to put in a plug for the Donut Haus. This is a business that Homer Simpson would love and approve of. :homer: The donuts are good (filled glazed are my favorites) but it is the Rolls that keep bringing us back. My favorites are the Cheescake Roll and the Maple Iced Nut Roll with pecans.

These rolls are giants and packed with sugary goodness. That is a regular dinner plate (not a salad plate) that they are sitting on! They are reasonably priced (considering their size) at about $1.50 each. I know, I know, they probably have enough calories for a whole day but you're going hiking right (the DH Trail will get your there- http://www.rmnpforum...l__+donut +haus)? That's exercise and it is your vacation. Treat yourself to these decadent delights. The Donut Haus is located at 324 Moraine Avenue-right under the Big Slide.

Yum!!
We visited the Donut Haus once last year the rolls were very good.
There's a family owned bakery in our town that is very well known around here, not until we had a roll from the Donut Haus have we ever had anything that compared to our favorite little bakery at home.

I LOVE Donut Haus. They are my favorite donuts of all time, (& I really love donuts!) Being in EP is the only time I can eat donuts without guilt, because I can go hike it off.

Just looking at that picture makes me feel like I should rush over to the fitness center to work off all the calories. :excersize:

Although the EP Pie Company is where I usually go for a special treat, I'm thinking a future trip to the Donut Haus may be in order.

The Donut Haus is an Icon... it has changed hands a few times.. the original owner was a German fellow who used special starter ingredients in his mix.. Up every night at 1 or 2 am.. If you can recognize the building.. it used to be a gas station on the corner, bought my first set of tires there lol..

Anyway, Dad would buy a flat of donuts and show up at the house, the grand kids still remember that.. I am partial to sticky buns, but the cheese cake rolls and anything maple are good choices..

I stopped a couple years ago and was early enough the lady had time to talk a bit. She's from MN and either Swedish or Norwegian. I do believe Sandy P. should do a photo shoot of her, there's nothing like a dough loving Swede.

Sounds like I need to totally throw healthful eating out the window next time we're there and visit the Donut Haus.... with my camera (mmmmm.... can't wait) I'll tell her Igloo Ed volunteered her for a photo shoot. Sounds sooooo fun!!! :smile1:
