John and his friend arrived reasonably early yesterday with no problems and today was his first hike other than having time to go to Dream last evening.
Today the three of us started at the Ute Crossing and hiked out to Tombstone Ridge before dropping down into Hidden Valley.
We spent quite a bit of time hanging out in the big rocks of Tombstone and then headed down and north to get to the top of the snow in the top bowl of the old ski area. We had a blast glissading down parts of the bowl until we reached the road that crosses at the bottom of the bowl. John's friend had never glissaded before and he picked it right up.
The snow is melting fast but there is still a lot in the big snowfields and a reasonable amount in the high woods but that is going fast.
The weather was rather overcast and this is the best picture I got up on Tombstone Ridge:

John is having fun and we got down early enough that he headed off to the Alpine Visitor's Center with his friend and I headed home.

Good. Tell it to keep on melting.

I'm sure John had a great time. Anything that involves sitting on his butt and sliding around a bowl is a winner in his book. :elk:

That's a beautiful picture. I'm jealous of the glissading down the Hidden Valley ski bowl part. I've always wanted to do that.

(I'll date myself - I remember when the Hidden Valley lifts were still running. I was very young at the time, though.)

Uh-oh, I think John and his buddy are camping at Sandbeach Lake which is above 10K elevation. They are getting snowed on. Hope it is not interfering with their fun. Right now, moisture in the form of snow sounds awfully nice to me, but that's because it's been over 100 every day and not a drop of rain in weeks.
