I happened to be in Denver the first part of the week and was able to get away for a RMNP hike today. My plan was to go up to Lawn Lake but.....I always change my plans. I went to the Lawn Lake TH and said "nope, I have to go to the Wild Basin". That is my favorite area and seeing all the other hiking reports I began to 'wonder how much snow there might be at Thunder Lake. The first 2 miles were easy and the next 1.5 to 2.0 miles were handled with crampons. The last part however, 2.5 miles approximately, was traversed with snow shoes and I'll tell you they weren't a luxury, they were necessary. Along the way I stopped at Ouzell Falls and captured a shot. The second shot is of Thunder Lake and the surounding peaks and pass. Too much WHITE in that pic but then again, that's all there was! The last picture illustrates how deep the snow is. The top of the patrol cabin's roof is only about 3 inches above the snow. I am guessing that the roof peak of the patrol cabin is 10 ft tall. Gonna be lots of water coming down sooner or later. And, it was sunny with little wind. Can't beat a day like that!

Thanks for the pictures. A lot of snow indeed. Someone's going to have a bit of shoveling this year.
The falls don't look like they are going full blast yet. Can't be long the way the weather is so hot. A great day for you with the weather.

Boots, Coop, boots. At least wool socks if you're not going to have waterproof footwear.

When we were heading back from Sky Pond this past Labor Day, we saw some goofy space cadet sashaying her way down from Alberta Falls in a dress and high heels.

I was kinda hoping to be able to go with that look.

High heels might negate the need for crampons. Wear red so we can find ya!

1 year we hiked to Nymph Lake(?) from Bear Lake. If that isn't the name it is the closest 1 going to the left. We followed a lady that had the short shorts on with the ruffle around the bottom edge. But half of the ruffle was torn loose so you got to see butt cheeks in motion. My husband just shook his head and chuckled. She was way to old for those shorts. You never know what you will see anywhere you go.

Only the tip of the roof of the patrol cabin is sticking out? Amazing!

It looks like you had a good time.
