My neighbor and friend escorted Grannyheart today on a out of the way route to Haiyaha which turned up lots of great new experiences.
We went to the back of Bear Lake and headed directly west to the small pond north of Dream Lake.
Just a bit above Bear Lake, there is a cliff that forms a standing icicle that is quite impressive at time. Today it had the look of spring:

A little further along the cliff showed signs of spring to but these delicate icicles were still hanging on:

We went past the ice and got a good view back:

The going was very steep but the snow was wonderful spring snow that gave excellent traction and footing for the snowshoes:

We topped out on a glacial knob at the top of the steep snowfield and got this view of Glacier Gorge:

We went across Dream Lake and headed up over the ridge to Haiyaha. The going was a bit steeper on this section of the route:

This is undoubtedly the steepest snowshoeing Granny has ever done!
Oh My!

It was good to meet you guys too. Thought about it all day and I kinda remember meeting you before but not and then for the life of me, I'd never remember where or when.
Glad you made the summit. There was some wind through the day but not bad especially with it being as warm as it was.

It depended on the altitude lol, 70 deg. in EP.. baking in the trees with exertion, cold and windy up high..

I thought that was a canoe standing on end in the first picture. And it looks like a giant mosquito flying in front of the canoe. Do I have an imagination or what?

Looks like a beautiful day for a snowshoe hike.

Don't worry, I saw the mosquito too. I'm still not completely convinced that it isn't one. They do get massive out there.

Great little report! I can't wait to get back. :yup:
