Aaron linked to a story about the possible closure of RMNP because of the budget issues going on right now.

Article link

Seems odd that they would shut the doors, and still keep Rangers on duty to to ticket folks sneaking in. Then again, if you don't know where they are, you can't go in and rescue them when they get in trouble.

I'd rather just see it stay open, but that's beyond my control.

It looked like the Estes Park News, had an article about how the Larimer County Sheriff's office would provide a method for having it stay open..

They also mentioned in the article that the Sheriff might not have the authority to do it. Extra points for his willingness to step up and try though.

Just a reminder folks, it's perfectly fine for us to discuss this issue. We just need to avoid any discussions on the political side. Few things polarize people like politics, and there are lots of other outlets for those conversations. It keeps everyone much happier (especially the admins).

I for one would not be happy if I got all settled down in Estes, to go up to the entrance and find out......

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Things sure get busy in the park on free days.

^ Even I know a bunch of ways in on foot, trails with parking outside Park boundaries.

And this raises the interesting question of what "closed" means in this context. Certainly, they'll stop letting cars in (and taking money for the privilege). But hikers, I'd think, would continue to have access. It's not like they can put up "no trespassing" signs everywhere. HPH

I was told last year by a Park Ranger that I own the Park since I'm a taxpayer.

Just tell them I said it was ok to go on in.

This is an outrage that these clowns hold OUR park(s) hostage for their political game-playing and leveraging. Doesn't surprise me but it still ticks me off. I'll be making a one-handed call to my representatives soon.

I'll likely be doing a podcast interview with the npca's budget & appropriation guy. So if you guys have questions you want me to ask him then send me a private message with your question.

I agree. Someone needs to play by his own rules. He must be on some type of power trip.
