Be careful! With high winds like that you could end up needing a medic! :) Seriously, that was a very wondermous video!

For those that think I am crazy.... Silk base layers, Kenyon mid layer, and wind pants with, 2 base layer tops, fleece vest, Columbia Omni tech wind layer.... and another wind layer in the pack, with another full fleece vest, fleece balclava and very expensive mittens packed with 5 sets of chemical warmers a piece.. My wife has the same... plus a thermos of honey laced Mandarin Orange Spice... plus food for a full 24.. I may be crazy, but I know how much a burden it would be to come get me or my wife off the mountain.. having done that before..

Other than that.. it truly was a blast, beats sitting around the house pestering the dogs lol..

Great report. Ironically I can relate to that trip. A friend and I did the exact same thing about 4 years ago. Started and Hidden Valley, which it looks like you did, and got to the Ute sign! We retuned via the Ute trail for a bit andultimately merged at the "intersection" where the trail up from Hidden Valley meets the road there at the sharp corner. Coming down that large open area above the road on snow shoes was a blast.

I looked at the map earlier in the week and thought about coming down tombstone ridge... that would have been cool as i could have reminised more about upper hidden valley and "back in the day" but the weather was too wild and wooly..

I enjoy putting the info up, there are few that I deal with on a day to day basis that comprehend what we do.. their eye's glaze over and the nod their head and say uh uhh. lol..

I hope it brought back a memory for you too..

Great report. I guess I always assumed the snow would be packed high on the road all the way up. It was interesting to see that the wind has blown part of it clear.

Yes, it did bring back the memories. That hike is much harder than one would expect. Someone told me "what's the big deal, you just walked up the road". Well, it ain't that easy!

Zactly, its 4.5 from the base of Hidden Valley to the Ute Trail..all but a mile total were on Snow Shoes, at the 4 mile mark we had white out conditions and almost bailed, but it stopped snowing and we saw the saddle and said "go for it".. Wished we could have seen the mountains from that vantage point, but.. maybe someday..
