While wandering around Upper Beaver Meadows, my husband and I noticed this woodpecker busy pecking on this tree. At first, I thought it might be the three toed woodpecker, but upon closer inspection, I think it is a female hairy woodpecker.

Can anyone help me out with a positive ID? Thanks!

100% sure this is a female Hairy Woodpecker, as you correctly identified. The Three-toed would have more barring on the flanks. A Downy WP would have a shorter beak. The male Hairy WP would have a red cap on top. Nice photo!
