I had been looking forward all summer to hiking Longs Peak at the end of our RMNP vacation. My only problem was getting to the trailhead (TH) at 3:00am. We only had one car, and I didn't want to get the whole family out of bed to drive my son and me there. My first thought was to spend $20 and camp at the TH. Through my research, I read a couple of trip reports where hikers/backpackers used Peak to Peak Taxi for one-way or through-hikes. I called Peak to Peak a week before the trip and confirmed that they would be running the night of our hike and cost would only be $25 from Estes to the Longs Peak TH. Sounded like a reasonable cost for my convience of not having to camp. I called back the day before our hike, as they had recommended, and set up a 3:00am ride to the TH.
Peak to Peak never showed-up. I left a message at 3:15 and then finally got ahold of them at 3:30. Apparently he was on his way to DIA and he was the only taxi for the night. The driver from the previous day never told this driver about us.
I know next to nothing about Peak to Peak Taxi, but apparently they have no dispatcher and rely on taxi drivers with cell phones to take appointments from riders. I'm sure these are descent people that are normally reliable, but I don't think I could trust them again.
Next time I'm camping at the TH.

After the Longs disappointment, we still had a great day in the park. We hiked to Mills, Black, and Green Lakes. Hope to share a trip report, when I get time.

Total bummer about the taxi, but it sounds like it was a great day despite the mishap... Looking forward to the report and PICS!!!

We had a completely different experience with Peak to Peak Taxi just last month. We requested a drop off at 4am at Trailhead and taxi was early to allow for stop on the way. He was friendly, very knowledgeable about the Park and hiking trails, and was waiting at our pick up point when we came out. I've heard only good things about taxi service whether in town or in Park. Thought you readers should have some updated info on local transportation. Reservations are honored and the owner personally schedules daily calls. 970-586-6111
